Living in today's world with the limitless amount of technology surrounding us has made us more digital. If you or your kids are millennials or even centennials, then you might already be in the group of the so-called "digital natives." All this technology was developed to make our daily life more comfortable. It has enhanced the way we approach daily tasks and our habitat itself.
Many brands have migrated and adapted to the digital era; hence, many of their products have changed. Some of these products are the ones we use at our homes; that's when the term "Smart homes" came into play. Smart homes are houses enhanced in technology to make living easier.
Some of us may already have a smart home, or at least a smarter one. Whether you have an Amazon smart speaker like Alexa or a security system at your house, many of us already count on smart technologies in our homes.
And yes, Amazon is to be recognized as one of the leading companies that started up the smart home tech. Yet, there are a few more companies that have a role in this technological advancement. In this article, you will read about the smart lightning by Philips Hue.
In terms of robustness and completeness, Philips Hue has a significant step ahead. Their lighting system is one of the best in the market, making it a strong competitor for the other companies interested in smart lighting systems.
Of course, as in everything, the Philips Hue system does not have it all. This system is highly pricey compared to its competitors; this might due to the hub you need to use it, which increases the price. However, Philips is widening its products, and all can be used through the app. You basically don't have to do anything, since the app is very intuitive with new products.
Different solutions
Philips Hue came up with different solutions to your lighting system at home. Through this article, we will talk you through the various lines of products that Philips Hue offers. Each line has lots of different products, hence why we decided to talk about the lines and not specific articles.
Bulbs
The Philips Hue lineup for LED bulbs come in a diversity of shapes and sizes for just about any household lighting need. Here, we are going to explain some of the varieties of the light bulbs they have so that you know what's the perfect fit for your house.
Philips Hue White: This Hue LED bulb type is the most basic one they offer. The color of these bulbs is a warm white light, but the color temperature of them is not adjustable like the other types. However, they are connectable to the Hue Bridge (the device you need to sync and manage all the lighting system) for wireless control. Also, these bulbs are the cheapest of all options.
Philips Hue White Ambiance: These are a more exciting type of bulb. Their color temperature can be adjusted in a wide range of 16 million colors. They come in different sizes, depending on your light plugs.
Philips Hue Striplight: Just as the previous bulbs, this striplight also come available to adjust in the 16 million colors that you like. This strip is perfect for those spaces where you need lighting but don't have where to screw a bulb. Though it is at a high price point, the strip is customizable; if the 80-inch piece is too long for your place, you can cut it short. The striplight can also be managed through the Hue Bridge.
Philips Hue filament smart bulbs: These type of bulbs is perfect for you if you don't like the all-white minimal design of the lamps above. These are the clear glass type of bulb where you can see the inner twisted filament that brings the light. Since this is a more vintage-y style of bulb, you cannot adjust its colors, but you can be connected to the Hue Bridge for wireless use.
Setup and installation
The installation process is relatively easy. You can use Philip's smart lighting system through their app and connect the lights via Bluetooth or the Hue Bridge. Either option is good, but it will depend on the number of bulbs you want to connect. If you're going to connect the bulbs to the Bluetooth, you can only put up to 10 lights. Hence why we recommend the Hue Bridge.
The Philips Hue lighting is fantastic if you wish to enhance your house's technology and make it smarter. Yet, all the models are sold separately, which makes the total package really pricey. Besides the fact that these bulbs don't count with switches, they're manage wirelessly, making it a bit uncomfortable.
